In previous blogs I’ve been exploring how AI can support our work in education and mental health. While these tools offer exciting possibilities, they also come with challenges like bias, privacy concerns, and transparency. To use AI effectively, it’s important to evaluate these tools carefully and thoughtfully.

To support this effort, I’ve created an AI Tool Evaluation Worksheet, which is now available for anyone to use. This worksheet builds on the APA’s AI Evaluation Checklist, along with other trusted sources, and provides a practical way to assess AI tools in key areas:

• Practicality and Leadership

• Clinical Evidence

• Data Privacy and Security

• Transparency and Bias

This worksheet was initially developed for professional development workshops, but it’s designed to be useful for a wide audience, including school psychologists, educators, and others interested in using AI tools responsibly.

How to Use the Worksheet

• Evaluate Thoughtfully: Use the worksheet to take a close look at whether an AI tool aligns with ethical standards and practical needs.

• Collaborate: Share it with colleagues to guide team discussions about AI integration in your school or workplace.

• Adapt It: While it’s geared toward education and mental health, the worksheet can be adjusted for other contexts.
